I believe what you believe.

Nigeria has a country has different perspective to different kind of people,some believe or perceive, it is theirs to rule,some believe they have been cheated in the geographical space called Nigeria,some believe it is a business organisation where they have to make profit,some believe it has to be islamised to be called Islamic republic of Nigeria,while some believe it has to be Christianized.Some external powers (English speaking G8 nation) believes when they sneeze Nigeria must catch cold with sympathy,some believe it is a failed state,while some believe it has to breakup.Some think it is their country and they have to defend it and be patriotic about it.Some believe it is controlled or rule by certain people with a hegemonic agenda. Some think in retrospect Nigeria should be in the same status with the B.R.I.C countries,some think she should be as modern as Dubai (UAE) with the petro dollar she makes and be a force to reckon with in the world,some think she is a sleeping giant with potentials.From the perspective of Sarah Blackshaw a Briton,and Professional Marketer who came to Nigeria has this to say: I have just returned from an extraordinary week in Nigeria and have come to the following conclusions;

Firstly, from a British perspective, disregard most preconceptions.

True, infrastructure and organisation leave a great deal to be desired, but the Nigerian ability to deal with adversity puts us to shame. There are many lessons we can learn from Nigeria if we are to cope with the apparent adversity created by the Spending Review.

Many delegates had travelled extraordinary distances and made many sacrifices, just to hear us speak. They were not passive audiences either. Some of the questions posed to me demonstrated a depth of reading and intellectual rigour that left me questioning the UK education system.I was further impressed with their respect for education, their hunger to learn, their dynamism and entrepreneurial sprit. No one I met expected a benevolent hand from the government or otherwise to support them.In many respects the Nigerians are already ‘leap-frogging’ the UK. Everyone I met truly believed they were marketers. They all carried two or more mobile phones and seemed to be talking, texting or emailing continuously. No second or opportunity is wasted.The working day starts early. Every morning the clatter of drills outside my hotel window started at 6:00 am sharp. Here is a culture of self-reliance, investment in personal development, endeavour and tenacity. The very qualities Britain needs.Of course, there are safer places to visit (anyone for armed security and barbed-wire hotel protection?), but this is a culture Britain can learn so much from, particularly if we are to bounce back from recession.Thank you to all of you I met and worked with in Nigeria. This was both a life affirming and life-changing week.(http://themarketersforum.co.uk/component/content/article/1-latest-news/174-lessons-from-nigeria) So the question is what do i believe or what is my perspective? My answer is this,Whatever you believe is what i believe or whatever is your perspective is my perspective.

What you don't eat,you don't smell.

I am a believer in this Yoruba adage that ''what you don't eat,you don't smell''.This adage clearly expresses my observation about the Nigeria State.The Nigerian State is a co-signatory to various protocols,bilateral Agreements and conventions,the moment the protocol or agreement is signed by both parties,the agreements does not see the light of the day or never implemented or implemented fully.An example is the Kyoto Protocol which Nigeria is a signatory,The Kyoto Protocol is a protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC or FCCC), aimed at fighting global warming. The UNFCCC is an international environmental treaty with the goal of achieving the "stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system(Wikipedia).What i see in Nigeria is a gross contradiction of what  the protocol stands for.On the Motorways trucks that are over 30 years old and Buses that are old discharges black fumes into the air.Due to increase in price of domestic fuel,People who cant afford to buy domestic fuels because of increase in price, falls  down trees to make fire to cook,depletion of this natural resource can cause deforestation.,on the waterways  oil and sludge flows  on the sea causing degradation of the ecosystem and environment.The same can be said in the Niger delta about Oil spillage.Most households in Nigeria do generate their power, and fumes from this generator is emitted into the air.The Nigerian state should please implement or fully implement and enforce whatever policy they have on Climate change and protection of the environment.Just my opinion and observation.

So much for Infrastructural development!!!

At every point in time the buzzword from the Government,both Federal and State is Infrastructural development and investments  and yet the Infrastructures already on ground are not maintained.An example is the balustrades on the bridge which is meant to protect cars from falling over to the ocean,Most balustrades on the third mainland bridge and most bridges in Lagos has been removed  and one begins to wonder do we have a department or ministry in charge of this things? or does the Government has any health and safety policy at all?
Another Observation is the street lamp which can be used to add aesthetic value to the visual character of the streets of Lagos but the lamps are not just there rather what we have is a gloomy streets that aids robbery.

My Observations

Currently i stay in Lagos,Nigeria,West Africa,and there are lots of Energy from The Youths in Nigeria; age bracket between 18 years and  25 years.And i also see a bit of creativity  and raw passion in whatever venture they set to do,but  what caught my attention is the performing Artiste in Nigeria,they are talented and creative as i mentioned earlier,they come up with  Musical innovations that are disruptive  and at times Incremental which makes them the darling and toast of African Modern Music.But what really baffles me is the Jackets,scarves,and winter boots they wear in very hot weather,Nigeria's temperature  especially Lagos where majority of the performing Artiste are  situated  is between 28 degrees and 31 degrees.
They are role models to a lot of kids  and  these kids look up to them in a lot of ways.They claim they are afro hip hop artistes but what is  afro about them?If they are afro hip hop artistes then they should depict it by wearing African. Thats my humble opinion

My View

Victoria Island in Lagos Nigeria is the headquarters of Corporate Nigeria ,it is a city full of paradox.Its is the City where High net worth individuals resides and also a city where the very bottom people resides as well.
It is full of vacant buildings which are fast becoming derelict,especially on the Ahmadu Bello way which houses the Liaison offices of all the states in Nigeria,this was because  Lagos was formerly the capital of Nigeria.Some of the building belonging to some states has been turned into a haven for unemployed youths and slums,where there no functional drainage system.,collapsed doors and windows etc.The most appalling thing is that there are lot of homeless people who sleeps on the bar beach opposite this derelict buildings and on the street.If the state government of  some of this abandoned building  had a vision or economic foresight ,they would have known that the building could provide additional revenue for their government by means of rent,and this will have a  multiple effect in the Housing situation in Lagos.
My appeal is for the State governments of abandoned buildings on Ahmadu Bello way should please do something about their buildings.
